John first became a member of the Teamsters Union in 1989 while working as a Driver/Warehouseman for Canada Packers. From 1993 - 1996 John worked as a Teamster with the Hibernia Construction Project. He began working at Scott National (later to become Sysco Food Services) in 1997 as a Warehouseman. Not long after commencing his employment with Sysco Food Services John became a Shop Steward representing his fellow employees.

In 2000 John was hired as a Business Agent for Local 987.

Currently John represents all members in various industries at Local 987.
